Build Better is an operational readiness partner for the construction industry. While most safety consultants focus on the integrity of the scaffolding and the machinery, we focus on the integrity of the Human Element.
Founded and delivered by a former Detective Inspector with 17 years of experience in high-pressure environments, Build Better brings a forensic level of scrutiny to site safety and workforce health. We don’t just provide "wellbeing" we provide human reliability.
The Build Better Approach
We look at your site through a tactical lens to identify "invisible" risks before they become incidents. Our service is built on three core pillars:
The Bottom Line
We believe that a healthy crew is a profitable crew. By reducing near-misses, preventing RIDDOR incidents, and improving site morale, Build Better ensures your project stays on schedule, stays safe, and stays under budget.

The construction industry is facing a crisis that high-vis vests and site inductions aren't solving. While physical safety protocols have improved, the mental and physiological "structural integrity" of our workforce is at a breaking point.
The numbers reveal a sector under extreme pressure:
In 2020, the CIOB conducted a landmark survey on mental health in the industry; they repeated this survey in 2025. The findings are clear:
"The frequency of construction industry workers experiencing poor wellbeing is on the increase, with many more reporting feelings such as stress, depression, anxiety, and poor concentration on a daily or weekly basis."
Despite increased awareness and corporate initiatives, the data shows that the current trajectory isn't working. Awareness is not the same as intervention.
At Build Better, we believe the industry doesn't need more posters in the canteen; it needs a tactical, forensic approach to human reliability. We don't just "talk" about mental health; we identify the physiological triggers of stress, the physical mechanics of fatigue, and the leadership failures that allow "critical overload" to go unnoticed.
It’s time to stop managing the fallout and start fixing the system

The cost to an employer is £8,400, before factoring in site shutdown, investigation downtime, and project delay penalties—which routinely exceed tens of thousands of pounds. (source: IOSH Magazine)

Why We Focus on Supervisors: The Advanced Site Vision
"In my 17 years within the Metropolitan Police, we recognised a fundamental truth: the most influential role in any high-stakes organisation is the frontline supervisor. They dictate the standards, enforce compliance, and are the first to see when an individual is failing to cope under pressure.
The construction industry is no different. Your Site Supervisors and Managers are the operational spine of your project. The “Advanced Site Vision” Training Program is designed specifically for them. We equip your leadership with the tactical skills to maintain high-level situational awareness. This training teaches supervisors to monitor the focus, fatigue, and presence of their teams as actively as they manage physical hazards, ensuring human risk is detected and mitigated before it impacts the project. When your supervisors know how to detect and de-escalate human risk, your entire site is protected.
Delivery Format: Hybrid in-person site visits plus regular remote support
Best Suited To: Tier 1 and larger Tier 2 contractors running multi-site programmes, where senior leadership wants embedded, measurable wellbeing infrastructure as part of their health and safety culture. Where Mental Health First Aiders are already in place, this Program provides structured upskilling that moves them beyond surface-level qualification.

My Qualifications & Approach
Hi, I’m Victoria.
Build Better is founded on 17 years of frontline experience as a Detective Inspector, a career spent reading people, identifying risk before it escalates, and making high-stakes decisions under pressure.
During my career as a Senior Detective, I was called to construction sites to lead investigations following fatal accidents. In these cases, my role required me to formally close the site, halting operations entirely to allow for a forensic examination.
While these events are infrequent, their impact is absolute. Beyond the immediate tragedy, there is a profound ripple effect on the site teams and management
I founded Build Better to focus on prevention. For the final six years of my service, I specialised in designing and delivering advanced training packages within the Metropolitan Police. These programs were developed specifically to enhance operational performance and human reliability in high-pressure environments. My work in this field was formally recognised through Commendations, marking a proven track record of driving professional standards and performance. By using an investigative lens, I help you identify the subtle "warning lights"—such as fatigue or detachment—that can precede a safety lapse.
I don’t just consult on wellbeing; I help you protect your people, your leadership, and the continuity of your project
That operational background is the lens through which everything else is applied.
It is supported by a structured professional framework across four practice areas:
